DNS Nameserver Settings

Connect Your Domain Name to Your Hosting Account

If you have purchased your domain name you should have received login instructions from the registrar to login to your domain manager. Getting your domain name is the first step, but if you are not hosting your web site with your registrar you will need to update your domain name DNS settings, which allows hosting services to pickup your domain name and point it to your hosting account. For more general information about DNS, visit how the DNS system works.

Basically, by entering DNS settings for your domain name you will be letting the world know how to get to your web site. If you have registered your domain name through Godaddy, please follow these steps to set your DNS settings to the OrangeTree Internet servers (or which ever hosting service you will using):

  1. Login to your domain manager.
  2. Find the Domain Management page. This will display a list all of your registered domain names.
  3. Click the check box beside the domain name and locate and click the "Name Servers" option (at the top of the list if you are using the Godaddy domain manager).
  4. On the Default Namer Servers tab, click the "Custom" radio button.
  5. Click the Custom Name Servers tab and enter the following information:
    Nameserver 1:
NS1.WEST-DATACENTER.NET (or the primary IP address of your hosting service)
    Nameserver 2:
NS2.WEST-DATACENTER.NET (or the secondary IP address of your hosting service)
  6. Find and click the "OK" button to save your changes.

You can logout of your domain name manager. Please note that it can take as long as 12-24 hours for your new domain name to start working. You will know it is working ok when you enter your domain name into a browser and reach a page that says "This domain will be available soon...". If you do not reach a similar page within a reasonable amount of time, please contact us. Only contact us if you are hosting your web site with us. If you are hosting your web site with some other hosting service, contact them if you are not landing on a default page within a reasonable amount of time.
